The honest answer is 'it depends' — but it depends on a handful of clear factors. Here's what actually drives the price of moving a tiny home.
What Actually Drives The Price
There's no flat rate for tiny house transport because no two moves are the same. The cost comes down to a handful of factors, and once you understand them you can see why a quote is what it is — and how to keep it reasonable.
- Dimensions — height and width matter more than length, because they decide whether the move is over-size
- Weight — heavier builds need bigger trucks and more securing
- Distance — a cross-town move costs far less than a run to the Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast
- Access — tight driveways, slopes and overhead wires add time at both ends
- Permits and escorts — over-dimensional builds need permits and sometimes pilot vehicles
Why Over-Dimensional Builds Cost More
Once a tiny home exceeds the standard legal limits for width or height, it can't simply be loaded and driven away. It needs a permit, an approved route, travel within set time windows, and for the largest builds, pilot escort vehicles.
That compliance work takes time and coordination, which is reflected in the price. The upside is that a properly permitted move is a legal, insured and safe one — the alternative isn't worth the risk to a finished build.
How To Get An Accurate Quote
The more detail you give us up front, the more accurate the quote. We need the home's overall height, width, length and weight, the pickup and drop-off addresses, and a clear picture of access at both ends — gate widths, slope, overhead wires and where the home has to finish.
Photos help enormously. Send us a few of the build and both sites and we can give you a realistic figure rather than a vague range.
